1. Kreg PRS 1045 – Best Router Table to buy in 2019
This router table is the best available right now. A minimal router table with a sturdy design, lots of working space and safety features to keep you safe while working.
The Kreg PRS 1045 is our top pick for 2019. It is among the most precise tables we have ever reviewed. It is superbly constructed and every component is designed to help you achieve the most precise cuts to your wood.
Made from aluminium, the fence is lightweight and is totally enclosed. This creates a vacuum chamber the full length of the table and creates an excellent dust collection system.
It is a newer, type T style (The PRS 1015) which aligns perfectly to the miter slot. It is really simple to use. All you have to do is to push the handle down to lock it.
It adjusts easily with just one hand and locks firmly in place with dual locks: a large paddle lock on the infeed end, and a quarter-turn lock on the out-feed end that prevents fence deflection.
The fence is comprised of two individual fence faces allowing you to correct it flawlessly for large workpieces.
Other things of note
The table has a 1″ thick (25mm) MDF core that absorbs vibration and offers mass to help create a stable router table.
It comes with a stand that can be adjusted from 31″ to 39″ (78.7cm to 99.1cm) high and has levellers to compensate for uneven floors. Plus, the stand has pre-drilled holes that make it easy to mount accessories and to customize the stand.
Despite having to assemble the table, constructing it is a breeze. The directions are clear and informative and the table top comes with pre-drilled holes so you know exactly how everything is supposed to fit together.
Nevertheless, this is a one-off thing you need to do and there is a decently detailed manual and the components are well-packaged. This makes it as simple as it can be.
| Very precise cuts achievable|
|Doesn't come pre assembled|
2. BenchDog 40-102 ProMax Cast Iron Router Table – The best table saw extension
It really is a gem for smaller workshops
This table is considerably heavier than your typical table, which minimizes vibrations to help with precision and helping keep everything stable. If you have a smaller workshop and do not have space for a stand alone router table this is an excellent option.
The benchDog 40-102 ProMax has very a good dust collection system and the router plate (available separately) can be levelled perfectly as this extension has 10 different adjustment points.
This table comes complete with the Benchdog ProFence. This runs on a cantilevered gripping system to support the fence and keep everything in position. The fence locks down very tightly and is nice and rigid.
Its built of solid aluminium and contains sub fence faces that are independently adjustable.
Other things of note
We recommend you buy the Bench Dog version of router plate and lift if you don’t want to bother with having to modify your existing setup or a new purchase to accommodate your router.
It is not possible to install this router table to the left side of a table saw that has a left tilting blade. This is because left tilting table saws bulge out a little bit on the left making it nearly impossible to screw in the centre bolt.
It will fit a rigid table saw although you may have to drill some additional holes and add a few extra bolts depending on which end you want to put it and which brand of table saw you have.
| Very solid unit will minimize vibrations|
Great if you have limited space in your workshop
Router plate can be leveled perfectly with about 10 adjustment points.
| Does not come with a router mounting plate
Difficult to mount by yourself because of the weight
Best Router Tables for DIYers and Hobbyists
3. Bosch RA1181 Benchtop Router Table – Best Value for Money Router Table
Bosch RA1181 Benchtop is the number 1 best seller on Amazon for good reasons.
It offers affordability with decent performance. This is great for a DIYer or hobbyist as at this price range it is hard to complain about the performance and functionality the Bosch RA1181 offers.
The Bosch RA1181 arrives nicely packaged complete with two three mounting-plate insert bands, a pre-drilled mounting plate and all the accessories you will need to mount it. There is a twin outlet 15 Amp switch that has overload protection, a clear guard (also adjustable), a crank pin with a guard, two adjustable feather boards, and two 1/16″ fence shims.
The dust collection system works well. There is a 35 mm port but you can buy an adapter if you have a more robust 2 1/2″ hose.
The fence is removable; however, the vacuum port is built into the fence and is not available when the fence is removed.
The table is constructed from an aluminium top and has a solid plastic base.
It took us about an hour to set up from when we started un-boxing to when we had it ready to go. The instructions were clear and the setup was made easier by the mounting plate being pre-drilled to match our router. In fact, the mounting plate is pre-drilled for a wide variety of the most common routers. Levelling the mounting plate took us a little time
The width of the miter slot is 0.784″ (19.91 mm). It uses a conventional miter guide that doesn’t have side wheels. The distance between the edge of the mitre slot closest to the router arbor and thecentrer line of the arbor is approximately 4 7/8″
Bosch makes an entry level lift that will work on this table. But I believe it will only work with a Bosch router. Other lifts may take some modifications.
| Very affordable|
| Reports of some models not being flat.
Leveling the mounting plate got a little frustrating
4. Bench Dog 40-001 ProTop Contractor – Best mid range router table
The Bench Dog 40-001 ProTop is a fairly great example of a benchtop router table that arrives complete with almost everything you may need to take on any wood work project.
It is small, although decently sized and is easy to put together when following the instructions. It took us about an hour and a half including reading all the instructions.
The Fence is constructed with solid aluminium extrusion and is one piece. This means you don’t need any complex setup procedures that usually apply with a 2-piece fence. The fence is removable although you lose the dust collection system if you do.
Both the infeed and the outfeed adjust independently so you can use this as a jointer for small boards.
| Well constructed for a portable router table|
A good price
| Lack of external power switch
Needs a hole inside the cabinet to collect dust
5. Kreg PRS 2100 Precision Router Table – Best of the rest
This is a bare bones router table. It is basic but it does the job it is made for.
The PRS2100 features a wide 16″ x 24″ tabletop made with MDF and has and an aluminium fence that extrudes slightly which gives you extra flexibility when working.
The table also features a full-size router insert plate with precision plate levellers. We found that the plate levelling screws came loose with continuous use. We used a bit of thread lock to keep them in a position which solved the problem.
The mounting plate is not pre-drilled for any specific router.. it does, however, have a centring template pre-printed on the mounting plate that makes laying out the specific Router holes quick, easy and accurate. The exact size of the pre-drilled opening in the router table is 3 7/8″.
The fence isn’t overly elaborate. There are, however, two adjustable sides. It features a T track enabling you to use the feather board either horizontally or vertically. You can also offset the fence so you can use this as a joiner.
| High quality and very sturdy|
| You will need to drill your own router mounting holes
Plate leveling screws kept coming loose
Plastic clips that hold the fence are not very good at keeping the fence secure
Buyers Guide to Router Tables
There are lots of variables that you should take into considerations when making the decision of what router table is best suited to your needs.
There are a few key points that you should always keep in mind when buying a table and we take into consideration when reviewing these tables.
1. Compatibility with your router
Does the router table function well with your present routers?
Although everyone has a different router, there are popular routers which are used by a large percentage of woodworkers. Although many tables can be modified if needed to fit any router it is worth checking the manufacturer’s list of compatible routers to see if yours will work ‘out of the box’
2. Work Surface Dimensions and the Fence
We like tables with a larger work surface and with a decent fence enabling us to work with longer pieces of wood. Always measureyourr workspace to see what will fit.
There is not much difference between the table sizes of our top picks but we have included enough variety to suit both your workspace and your budget. You can be confident that all our top picks have enough space for you to work on.
3. Accuracy, Power and Flexibility
Probably the most significant point is the quality of work you can produce using your table. We complete several tests to ensure that the tables produce a high-quality finish and give you enough flexibility to perform multiple tasks.
Final Words – Wrapping it up
The market for router tables is pretty saturated and there are many options to choose from. Finding the perfect router table is never an easy task. That is why we put together this list. We carefully selected these router tables keeping in mind both cost and the needs of woodworkers
